Mr. Shmalo is very active in the Atlanta business community as a lawyer and business coach. He is the Chairman of the Board and a past President of SERIS, an Internet-focused non-profit business association. In addition, he served on the Georgia Technology Transfer Group, a GECA sub-committee. He has served as a judge for the Georgia Bowl™ MBA business plan competition at The University of Georgia’s. He is a frequent guest-lecturer on venture capital for The Georgia Institute of Technology’s School of Management and has been a coach to a venture capital team from the Goizueta Business School at Emory University. He served on the host committee for the 2004 Georgia Technology Summit and was the recipient of a community contribution award from TechLINKS in March 2004. Dan has been a speaker at numerous business, legal and technology events, including the Venture Capital Transactions seminar for the Institute of Continuing Legal Education of Georgia (2003, 2005). Dan serves on the board of advisors for companies including, Vesdia Corporation, Reaction Marketing Group, The Monaco Fund LLC, and Form53. Dan serves on the Board of Directors for Mothers’ Milk, Inc., a non-profit arts organization and has been a volunteer with the "Georgia Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts" and "Hands On Atlanta." Dan is a marathon runner and mentor with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s "Team In Training" program. Dan has participated in various marathon events for the past four years. To date, Dan’s team has helped to raise more than $25,000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Dan considers himself one of Atlanta’s biggest fans, locating his home, rental properties and business all in the City of Atlanta.Mr. Shmalo graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Boston University in 1988, received his J.D., cum laude, from Tulane Law School in 1992, and his LL.M. (Securities and Financial Regulation) from the Georgetown University Law Center in 1999. Dan is a member of the State Bar of Georgia (Corporate and Technology Law Sections) and the American Bar Association.
